Laparoscopy

Also known as minimal access surgery or keyhole surgery, is a procedure that looks at the organs inside a patient’s abdomen and pelvis.

Types

  • Diagnostic – examination of the pelvic organs for any possible causes of a patient’s symptoms
  • Operative – treatment of certain conditions such as excision of endometriosis, hysterectomy, etc.

Usually diagnostic and operative laparoscopy are performed at the same time.
